Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. Harmony recently acquired 100% of the Eva Copper project, a near-term copper project in Queensland, Australia. These assets are supported by the Harmony SE Asia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
The Senior Mining Engineer will provide support to the mining operation and technical services departments at our existing and developing projects, through overseeing project implementation, employing industry best operational mining practises and fostering the growth of onsite operational and engineering employees, you'll ensure our operations run smoothly while maintaining the highest standards of safety, health, and environmental compliance.
This dynamic role involves a combination of Brisbane-based work with flexible practices and on-site presence at Hidden Valley Mine in PNG, operating on the following roster; 9 days in PNG (Mine Site) 5 days off, followed by a 5/2 Mon-Fri, 5/2 Mon-Fri rotation in Brisbane. Flexible working practises are available when working in Brisbane.
Reporting to the Group Manager - Mining, the key responsibilities of this role include:
Ensure adherence to and enhancement of safety standards to meet or exceed statutory requirements, ensuring all work aligns with the safety management plan.
Participate in the implementation of the strategies, standards, and procedures in accordance with the strategic business plan.
Assist in establishing and maintaining standards, procedures, and guidelines for the mining discipline to mitigate safety and business risks and optimise quality and productivity.
Collaborate with onsite teams to support the timely and effective execution of mine plans and schedules, providing technical guidance and expertise.
Working alongside the site Mining and Technical Principals to assist in managing and improving operational performance.
Developing the operational and technical skills of the mining and technical services teams.
Lead the implementation and development of safety and business improvement initiatives including performance enhancing systems and technology.
Monitor project compliance and performance standards, analysing critical path activities during implementation.
Generate necessary internal and external reports on operational and project performance, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
About You :
To succeed in this role, you should be a highly experienced engineering professional, self-motivated, and able to work efficiently and collaboratively holding the following qualifications and experience:
Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. mining, civil, environmental engineering).
Minimum 4-6 years’ experience in large scale open pit mining including supervisory roles.
Experience with mine planning and scheduling software (e.g. Deswik, Surpac).
Proven computer experience, including project management and Microsoft software suite.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
