Microsoft Clarity: is a cutting-edge behavioral analytics tool that helps us understand user interaction with your website. By using Clarity, we can enhance the user experience.
Role Overview
You will join a renewable energy business requiring an experienced SCADA & Controls Engineer to strengthen the performance, reliability and supportability of its operational technology environment. This is a hands-on position where you will work across existing assets while also contributing to projects moving through design, commissioning and operational handover.
Your remit will cover SCADA applications, automation hardware, plant controllers, communications, telemetry and supporting data platforms. Rather than operating within one narrow technical stream, you will investigate problems across the full controls environment, determine where issues originate and coordinate the right technical response with internal teams, site personnel and specialist vendors.
The role also provides the opportunity to improve how these environments are supported longer term. You will help strengthen configuration practices, system recovery, technical documentation, testing standards and operational readiness, while contributing engineering input into upgrades, new assets and future control-system decisions. The underlying environment includes Ignition, PLC/RTU technology and renewable plant-control systems.
Responsibilities
Take ownership of complex SCADA and controls faults across operational assets
Configure and enhance Ignition-based applications and associated interfaces
Investigate PLC, RTU and plant-controller behaviour across renewable sites
Trace telemetry and control issues across field, network and SCADA layers
Support communications across DNP3, Modbus, OPC UA and IEC 61850 environments
Improve the quality, availability and reliability of operational data
Contribute engineering input into new assets, upgrades and control-system designs
Plan and support technical testing during project and commissioning activities
Strengthen system backup, restoration and operational support arrangements
Work across operations, engineering, cyber, infrastructure and external vendors
Candidate Profile
You will be an experienced SCADA or controls engineer with a strong background in utilities, renewable energy or another comparable operational environment. The role requires someone who can work directly with SCADA applications, PLCs, RTUs and plant-control systems rather than operating purely at a design or project-management level. Practical Ignition experience is particularly important, including configuration, scripting, alarms, data integration and system administration.
Your technical breadth should extend into industrial communications and telemetry, with the ability to diagnose issues across protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, OPC UA and IEC 61850. You should also understand how plant controllers interact with wider renewable operations and be comfortable supporting commissioning, technical testing, system restoration and production changes in operational environments.
Just as importantly, you will be able to work across multiple technical groups and translate complex problems into practical actions. You will need sound engineering judgement, disciplined documentation and the confidence to coordinate vendors and technical specialists. Exposure to SEL RTAC, BESS controls, virtualised SCADA environments or mixed Windows/Linux environments would be advantageous rather than essential.
Company, Culture & Benefits
You will join a renewable energy organisation continuing to invest in the technology underpinning its operational assets. The environment will suit an engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, working across multiple disciplines and leaving systems in a stronger state than they found them.
