Narangba, Brisbane QLD | Full Time | On-site
Are you an experienced Electronics Engineer who enjoys getting hands-on with electronic design, embedded firmware and solving complex technical challenges?
Cortela Carbon is looking for an Electronics Engineer to join our team at Narangba, working on the development of innovative electronic monitoring technology for industrial applications.
This is an opportunity to contribute to the development of new technology, taking electronic products from design and prototyping through testing, refinement and practical field application.
This is a full-time, office-based position at Narangba, Brisbane.
About the role
Reporting to the Projects Technical Lead, you will be responsible for the hands-on design, development, testing and refinement of electronic hardware and embedded firmware, initially focusing on Cortela Carbon's Online Monitoring System.
You will work closely with a small, collaborative technical team, contributing to the development of reliable, practical and commercially viable electronic solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
Designing electronic circuits, schematics and multilayer PCBs using Altium Designer or similar software.
Developing, testing and maintaining embedded firmware using C/C++.
Working with Nordic nRF-series microcontrollers, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and low-power wireless technologies.
Integrating sensors, communications and data acquisition functionality into electronic monitoring systems.
Undertaking prototype development, bench testing, troubleshooting and design improvements.
Supporting system integration, field trials and product validation.
Maintaining accurate engineering documentation, design revisions and firmware version control.
Collaborating with internal teams and external technical specialists to deliver agreed project outcomes.
About you
We are looking for a practical, detail-oriented engineer who enjoys both the design process and the challenge of turning ideas into reliable, working products.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
A Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
A minimum of five years' relevant commercial electronics engineering experience.
Proven experience in PCB schematic design and multilayer PCB layout using Altium Designer, KiCad or similar.
Strong embedded C/C++ programming and debugging skills.
Experience with Nordic nRF52, nRF53 or nRF54 microcontrollers.
Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE 5.0 or higher), low-power wireless electronics and firmware development.
Experience integrating analogue and digital sensors and working with IoT platforms and connected devices.
Familiarity with GitHub or similar version-control systems.
Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively within a technical team.
Highly regarded, but not essential:
Exposure to AWS, cloud-based dashboards, REST APIs, JSON or SQL databases.
Experience with Jira or similar project management tools.
Familiarity with AI technologies, LLM APIs or intelligent workflow automation.
Experience with Claris FileMaker or integration with existing business systems.
Previous experience developing monitoring systems or electronic products for industrial or manufacturing applications.
Why join Cortela Carbon?
Join an established, family-owned Australian business supporting the mining and industrial sectors, where you'll have the opportunity to play a hands-on role in developing new electronic monitoring technology with real-world applications. You'll be involved across the full product development process, from initial design through to testing and field deployment, working alongside an experienced technical team where your ideas and contributions are valued. We offer a stable, full-time opportunity in a supportive, down-to-earth workplace that values honesty, integrity and respect.
