About the Role
An exciting Brisbane based opportunity has become available for a Principal Mining Engineer to join our corporate Mine Planning team within Technical Services. Reporting to the Manager - Mine Planning, the role is accountable for identifying opportunities for value accretion across the business and supporting the development of new projects. You will provide guidance on Whitehaven Coal and industry best practice in mine planning and design, Life of Mine, and budgetary reviews across our operations.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership that seeks to optimise medium and long-term planning for existing operations, identifying productivity or cost improvement opportunities, recommendations on implementation methodologies, development of budgets, and leading internal technical reviews. A key part of this role includes working with other engineers in the Mine Planning group, as well as site-based engineering teams to lead transformation and innovation across the group.
What You’ll Do
Provide technical leadership that seeks to optimise medium- and long-term planning for existing operations
Identify productivity/cost improvement opportunities and provide recommendations on implementation methodologies
Working with key stakeholders across the business to lead transformation and innovation in all aspects of mine planning.
Deliver plans that are supported by effective mine planning design criteria, scheduling assumptions, inclusive of supporting activities relating to the mining fleet.
Challenge existing practices, assumptions, and mining/hauling/dumping sequences to ensure that business needs are met, whilst ensuring the long-term sustainability of the operations.
Provide technical support to growth projects, including due diligence, assessment of opportunity & risk, and potential integration relating to M&A activities.
What You’ll Bring
Alignment with our core STRIVE values
Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or similar
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mining engineering with demonstrated career progression and development
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to articulate technical information accurately and succinctly
Strong understanding and capability in common industry software applications is essential, particularly Vulcan, Deswik and Spry
Eligibility for membership with AusIMM
